This small but scenic volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean used to be a penal colony for the nation’s political prisoners. Nowadays, numerous tourist (both domestic and foreign) flock to it for its excellent snorkelling and scuba diving sites. Big Mushroom Coral (大香菇)

Of all the dive sites at Green Island, the Big Mushroom Coral (大香菇) is perhaps the most famous. It is located around 150m off the coast at ShiLang (石朗).

Big Mushroom is a gigantic mushroom-shaped pore coral that is thought to be a few hundred years old. With a height of 10-12m, it is one of the biggest of its kind in the world.

Unfortunately, the coral was toppled by Typhoon Meranti in Sept-2019. And has laid on its side ever since.

Review: Ah Si Diving Club (Green Island)

A big Thank-You and a special shout-out to the wonderful and professional folks at Ah Si Diving Club (綠島阿禧潛水俱樂部-過日子民宿). During our Green Island trip, we’re extremely fortunate to be using the services of Ah Si Diving Club and staying at their near-new BnB. We truly had a great time diving and staying with them.

Even though there were some mistakes on our part during the dives, the dive master/s from Ah Si was extremely patient and ensured that we were never in any danger. With regards to the logistical aspect of our trip, they took extra efforts to ensure that everything was handled properly. Including helping us to arrange for our ferry tickets, scooter rentals, food catering and tickets for our land activities. Not to mention that the property/rooms are in excellent condition, giving us a comfortable setting for our trip!

Do reach out to them if you’re planning your Green Island trip!
