Santa Cruz Boardwalk and West Cliff Drive, Santa Cruz, California

“Nice little drive in Santa Cruz”

West Cliff Drive is a nice short drive from highway#1 that will bring you to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk area. This road has a few photogenic spots.

To access West Cliff Drive, drive along highway#1, then turn into Swift street and go till the end to reach it.

Once along West Cliff drive, head east along the drive and it’ll lead you to the Santa Cruz boardwalk area.

17-Mile Drive, Monterey, California

“DO NOT miss this!”

This is a drive NOT to be missed if you’re around Monterey. The coastal views are fantastic!

The 17-mile drive is a looping circuit that has 21 points of interest along it. It’s located in a private/gated community and as such, you need to pay USD10 to drive on it (map will be given at gate). It includes the famed Pebble Beach golf course.

There are a few entry/exit points. One is just along highway#1 (Pacific Coast Highway; PCH) and another is on Asilomar Ave. The entire loop takes 45min to drive. However, I took 3hours to complete it as there are too many photographic opportunities. The most picturesque part of the drive is when it reaches the coast. you’ll end up stopping every few hundred metres for taking photos.

McWay Waterfall, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, Big Sur, California

“Nice little waterfall in a beautiful cove”

This is a beautiful (though small) waterfall right at the edge of a beautiful cove with turquoise water. The colours are fantastic. Definitely worth checking out since it’s just right off the highway.

To get to it, stop at the roadside of highway#1 when you reach Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Park your car beside the highway and on the coastal side of the highway look for a trail immediately beside it. Follow the trail for approximately 5-10minutes to the end. The view of the waterfall/cove is better at the end of the trail.

Moonstone Beach, Cambria, California

“Good beach to find unique stones”

Nice beach front with a row motels lining the street. Good as a pitstop along highway#1. The beach was full of small unique stones and it was fun trying to collect a handful of colourful ones.
